ACHIEVEMENTS

The Department of Mechanical Engineering Education of NITTTR Bhopal provides quality need‐based training in content updating and emerging areas of Mechanical engineering through short term and long term programmes. The department also provides teacher training and skill development programmes related to innovative instructional resources, design of innovative lab experiences, student evaluation, Accreditation, MOOC’s etc. in the area of Mechanical engineering and allied disciplines. The department also helps technical education institutions in developing new curriculum in the areas of Mechanical engineering for undergraduate and diploma programs. Department also assists the client institutions in various curricular events, recruitment, modernization and removal of obsolescence of physical resources. Research works and sponsored projects have also been undertaken by the department faculty members and published research papers and patents. The details are provided in the following sections.

9.1 TRAINING - NATIONAL
  • Short term training Programmes conducted is based on training need analysis, demands of various states and as per the curricular needs of various DTEs/ BTEs/ Universities. Hence, the Programmes offered match with the needs of the clientele system.
  • DMEE faculty conducted 148 core domain knowledge programmes as well as Induction training & other programmes of one to two weeks duration from April 2014 to March. 2020. These programme participants were trained by DME faculty along with other faculty of the institute. The summary of training programs conducted and number of trainees trained by DMEE for the past seven years is summarized in Table 4 and Fig 1 & 2:

9.2 TRAINING- INTERNATIONAL
  • 21 academicians / managers / senior officers from 18 countries have participated in “Effective Strategies for Resource Management of Educational Institutes“ from 3rd to 14th February 2020 under ITEC scheme of Min. of External Affairs.
  • Conducted training programme on "Use of Design Software in Mechanical Engineering " from 6th to 17th January 2014
  • Conducted training programme on "Use of Design Software in Mechanical Engineering " from 8th to 19th December 2014
  • Organized training programme on "Advanced Diploma Programme in Technical Education" for participants from Ethiopia.
  • Organized "Induction Training Programme" for Technical Teachers of Nepal.
  • Conducted Occupational Skills upgrading Training Programme on "Advanced Design Tools and Die Making" for Technical Teachers of Nepal.

9.3 LONG TERM PROGRAMMES

The department has offered a postgraduate program ME in 'Advanced Production Systems' since 2012 with following details:

  • Main placement venues: SAIL, BSP,CSIR,ITIs etc.

9.8 CONSULTANCY PROJECTS FOR ACADEMIA/INDUSTRIES/FIELD AGENCIES

The department of Mechanical Engineering Education has completed many consultancy projects for Academia, Industries and Field Agencies. The details of projects completed in last ten years are given below-

  • a) Competency Based Training Programme for Telco Dealers’ Supervisors
    • These training programmes were conceived and designed at NITTTR, Bhopal in 1998.
    • During 1998 to 2006, the department organised 25 batches of training programme and trained more than 2000 supervisors working in sales, workshops and Spare-parts section of dealer organization of M/S TELCO Jamshedpur.
  • b) Tata Motors Certified Works Manager Training Progamme –
    • This consultancy training programme was conceived and designed at NITTTR, Bhopal in 2010. Since last five years, coordinated 5 batches of training programme and trained more than 200 works manager working in workshops/ service station of Tata Motors channel partners. Details given below-

  • Department faculty members contributed as project team member for organization of one week training programme on “Metallurgy for Engineers and Technicians” of Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. Dewas (M.P)

  • l) MOU with Industries
  • The department of Mechanical Engineering Education initiated collaboration with industry through offering training of industry personnel and signed MOU with TATA Motors in 2012-13.

9.9 EXTENSION SERVICES

In addition to the regular works departmental faculty have also extended their services for following tasks-

  • a) Conducted training programmes for Newly Recruited Training Officers of Directorate Of Skill Development, Department of Technical Education and Skill Development (DTE&SD), Madhya Pradesh Govt. in the areas of CNC Technology, Welding, and CAD (April 2016-Oct 2018) for the project of DVE&ED
  • b) Under Centrally funded sponsored scheme for Up-gradation of Polytechnic laboratories and department has successfully conducted more than 12 workshops vetting of Lab proposals related to Mechanical Engineering and allied disciplines details given in Table -5

9.10 DISTANCE LEARNING MODE

The department contributed as Resource Person in Distance Learning project for the State of Gujarat and developed Guideline document and Learning modules and also contributed in monitoring of implementation of Diploma Programme.

9.11 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

In addition to the regular works departmental faculty have also extended their services for following tasks-

  • Developed Competency- Based Training Modules on “Operation and maintenance of Hand Pump” for Grass-root Level workers under Rajiv Gandhi Drinking Water national Mission.
